A 'Merc' in Progress!

Phase I

Coffee, Art, Community

Well, well, well... It's been a while since we've updated you all on whats been going on at Madison Mercantile! There has been so much amazing progress to our building and business! We are coming up on finishing 'Phase I', the front half of our massive building, Turning the front half of our building into a warm, inviting space for all to enjoy! Gallery walls are adorned with the beautiful and interesting art of Janice Anderson and sculptures by Bob Jones. Madison Arts Council has a home featuring a local artist each month, beginning with paintings by Deb Meyer. Our coffee house is on its way to serving up the best cup of coffee in the area, the espresso machine is installed and we've been practicing our barista skills! Just finishing up the kitchen and playing the waiting game until we are ready for inspection! Corina Kells, photographer, has been working on her studio space, we are so excited for her to begin her journey at the Merc! One of the two office spaces we have available for rent has recently taken occupancy by Anna Vance, a mother of two, who not only home schools her children but has started a booming business creating day-planners! *Anna Vance Paper Co.* Anna needed a space away from the distractions of home for her to flex those creative muscles, she has turned the office into her own cozy, creative space... And just steps away from a delicious cup o' joe!

Events and Meetings!

We have held multiple events and meetings in the last few months, including everything from our own family Thanksgiving to a baby shower reception, Christmas parties, musical performances, home schooling meet-ups and meetings for different area organizations!

Our Christmas Makers Market was a great opportunity for our community to check out what we've been up to while supporting local creatives! We had multiple vendors over the 10 days we were open for 'Market', we offered spaces for local artisans to set up booths and have a chance to show off and sell their goods!

The Stad Stage

Our stage at Madison Mercantile, recently coined 'The Stad Stage', has already had the pleasure having local musicians perform for us! G'ette Jones and Lee Kanten of 'The Mad Hatters' preformed music and merriment December 4th kicking off the holiday season. Just two weeks later 'The Stad Stage' had one of its own performing on it for a second time! Boyd's Landing, the three-man group (Brad Fernholz, Ed Hegland and Erik Shelstad), graced the stage playing everything from Johnny Cash to John Mellencamp. And even their own rendition of Bad Company's 'I Feel Like Making Love' which they cleverly suited to the heavily Scandinavian crowd, changing the lyrics to 'I Feel Like Making Klubb'. They are already requested back by our community and hope to have Boyd's Landing back on our stage in January!

We have big plans for The Stad Stage, hoping to have more performances from area musicians of all music genres, an open-mic night, and even karaoke has been mentioned! Another upcoming event for The Stad Stage that we are looking forward to is hosting Trivia Nights! Beginning in January we will host QuizBang Trivia Nights at the Merc, we hope to offer something different for locals to do while we wait out the cold winter months!
